The latest Vital Colchester Poll shows that nearly half of all users think Wayne Brown has been Colchester`s biggest transfer-exit casualty within the last couple of years.
Brown, who left Layer Road last summer with a host of other familiar faces, cost Hull £450,000 and played in every second of Colchester`s maiden Championship campaign.
The impact of his exit was forecast to be big; his commitment at the back during 2006/7 won him the Players` Player of The Year Award.
The poll then showed Jamie Cureton, the official player of the season last term, to scoop 13% of the vote as the second biggest loss to the U`s in recent times.
He, like Brown before him, was rescued from the doldrums of reserve-team football and went on to perform a prolific partnership with Chris Iwelumo (who took just 6% of the vote count). The pair fired Colchester into their current division and smashed 41 goals between them last season.
Neil Danns, whose impressive tally of more than 20 goals during the promotion season, was another player whose absence was keenly felt at Layer Road; there was a clamour for the U`s to attempt a re-signing of the cult hero Liverpudlian during the last transfer window, shortly best her joined Crystal Palace.
The rest of the former stars, such as Greg Halford, Liam Chilvers and Richard Garcia, were all tied at 6% of the votes - the full list can be seen in the clu's poll archive.
The result shows that the work of a defender is still as valued as that of an attacking player; he has made a big impact at Hull and Brown is set to lock horns with Colchester this afternoon.
