Sheri`s Announcement Not To Blame

Geraint Williams has cuffed away suggestion in the media that Teddy Sheringham`s announcement that he will pack his kitbag for the final time in May contributed to the side`s 1-0 loss against Wolves.

Sheringham did not play due to a toe infection but the revaluation that he will soon retire after 24 years in the game had nothing to do with a lacklustre performance from Colchester United, according to his manager.

The statement from 41-year-old Teddy was presumably brought forward by 24 hours because the news was already broken in the press by Tony Cascerino in his Times column on a Saturday. The U`s number eight had been due to make the statement the next day on Television.

While Sheringham, who also jokingly announced his international career over, had watched his teammates lose, his manager explained: "The news broke on the morning of the game, but it was not Teddy's fault - it came from somewhere else.

"Teddy would have done it properly and he should have been able to announce it himself."

Williams, speaking in today`s Daily Mirror, added that Teddy had not simply been picking up the pay packet since his arrival at Layer Road last summer: "He has never shirked anything here and has always done what is asked of him. I have told him that I still believe he will score more goals this season."

What a class player, you'll miss him, not that he has played much, but a useful option to draw upon. I can't help but think you'd prefer a player of inferior ability who'd be more consistently on the pitch.

Hopefully he will score more goals.

Boxer - I think you're right, and Vernon from Blackpool is that player right now! But Teddy has been classy in bits, and the time he played 90 mins on the first day of the season was great!
