'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Fly Me To... Home Park?!?

As Vital Plymouth and a number of other news sources reported this morning, Colchester United`s squad took to the air by flying to Home Park for tonight`s fixture.

Over land and sea went the squad, yesterday using Standsted airport and a brief flight to take them to Devon, as opposed to coach. It was a club first, too, because nobody at Colchester United had ever used a plane to travel to fixtures before.

"It's another indication of how far the club have come over the last few years," according to skipper Karl Duguid, who make the trip despite not being in contention for selection due to injury.

"A lot of away teams fly when they play here and it's becoming more common these days," added the squad`s current longest-serving member - unfortunately a club first was not due to commitments in the arena of European football.

The trip to Home Park is usualy infamously tiresome: "The preparation for a game plays a massive part," Duguid added.

"If you're on a coach for five or six hours at a time, it can't be good. It could be half an hour or so into a game before you're even loosened up properly. Every point is important for us at the moment and we will go to Plymouth to win."

Bottom of the Championship they may be, but as this site`s Stevie_G_Col U remarked, Colchester are going up in the world!
