Virgo: Final Third Was Key
Colchester United defender Adam Virgo believed Plymouth's clinical finishing in the final third was the difference between the sides last night, at Home Park.
Argyle ran out 4-1 winners, with Kevin Lisbie grabbing a consolation goal for the U`s, and Virgo admitted there potent finishing was the key. The U`s, who are now seven points from safety at the foot of the table, have lost their last three games and are in serious trouble.
The on-loan Celtic man told The Colchester Gazette: 'In the final third, they were more clinical than us.'
'I wouldn't say that they played better football but they scored three more than us and that was the difference.' He explained.
'Our away form had been good this year and with the results at Burnley and Hull, we thought we had a chance of getting something from the game.'
'But as a team, the way we defended wasn't good enough.' The 25-year-old admitted.
'Scott Vernon had a chance and could have equalised and after that we didn't see them causing us too many problems.'
'Their two wingers were their main outlet and at 3-1 we had a chance of getting back into the game but we shot ourselves in the foot by conceding a fourth.'
Virgo also said: 'Our final ball wasn't quite good enough and that was probably the difference between the two teams.'
