SAF Salutes Sheringham

SAF Salutes Sheringham

Sir Alex Ferguson, the man who bought Teddy Sheringham from Spurs to Manchester in 1997, has paid tribute to the retiring Colchester United striker.

Teddy, 41, recently announced he will quit the game at the end of the season, and Ferguson said: "He's had a fantastic career and was a wonderful player for us."

Ferguson was speaking to Manchester United Radio. "He's an excellent footballer with a superb footballing brain, and you can't underestimate how important those goals in '99 were."

Teddy memorably scored a gaol in the European Cup final with almost no time to speare against Bayern Munich. The Red Devils went on to win the game without needing extra time.

The Scot went on to say that he thinks Sheringham could be destined for the dougout: "He's single-minded and a strong character and I think those are qualities he can take into management. We all wish him well."
