Colchester fans today were left reeling after the club announced prices for tickets for next year at the new stadium, making Colchester the second most expensive club outside the Championship and Premiership.
With prices rising up to 60%, is there is any wonder that the fans are up in arms with just 3500 season ticket holders and between 2000 and 3500 pay on the day supporters to fill the new 10,000 seat stadium.
Many season ticket holders have already expressed their disgust at a price hike that has taken a season ticket off of their affordable list, coupled with the almost inevitable relegation of the U's from the Championship it seems that this is one Own Goal the fans will not suffer.
Talk of protests have already been mooted by the fans, with some already organising social networking groups for fans to sign up to, many I feel will just protest with their feet and find something less financially draining to do at 3pm on a Saturday afternoon.
Of course a price increase was expected, a new stadium and the associated overheads involved, a premium to pay back to the local authority and the list most certainly goes on.
However it beggars belief as to how the club have come to the figures they have after all surely the life blood of the club is not the Players the Manager, Chairman or Staff but the bums on seats?
I may be wrong but surely the way to put bums on seats is to firstly offer a product that attracts the fans and then at an affordable price.
Taking into consideration the teams current form and next years ridiculous pricing structure this has to be the biggest OG of all time.
Mr Cowling I am no Millionaire but I am a fan and the fans are no mugs!
