'If It's Football, It's Vital'

McLeod Unsure of Next Move

Colchester United winger Kevin McLeod has admitted he does not know whether he will be a U's player next season.

McLeod was handed his first start in two months against Scunthorpe on Sunday, netting a brace, as the U's finished the campaign with a 3-3 draw. The left-sided midfielder, who joined the U's from Swansea, is unsure if he will be offered a new contract with Geraint Williams' men or if he will have to find a new team. The U's have already released Kevin Watson, Luke Guttridge, Tom Webb and Tom Devaux but McLeod's fate is yet to be revealed.

'I don't know what will happen next in my career,' he told The Colchester Gazette.

'I'm just here to play football and I don't get involved in things like that - I'll leave that to the gaffer.

'But over the summer I will keep myself as fit as possible and carry that on for another nine months - whether I'm at Colchester or anywhere else.'

McLeod, 27, has had a frustrating season due to injuries: 'I've had a frustrating time over the last couple of weeks because I haven't been playing. I had to keep my head down and I was just happy to be back out there again - and especially to score a couple of goals.

'It's been a frustrating season. We've got a good set of lads and we showed against Scunthorpe that we can get the ball down and play football.

'We've let ourselves down defensively over the season but we have to pick ourselves up now and push for promotion from League One.'

Meanwhile, U's gaffer Williams said: 'Kevin has all the ability in the world and it's how to get the best out of him for 90 minutes and all season.

'He seems to have little spells where he does ever so well but the key is to get that consistency out of Kevin week in, week out.'

So will he stay or will he go?

Don't back him at all, very lazy when he was at QPR, not really suited to this level, should do well at League 1 level if you can get those blue boots off him.
