Royals & Blades Keen On Dean?

Colchester United goalkeeper Dean Gerken is a £500,000 summer transfer target for Reading and Sheffield United, according to a report in today's Daily Star.

The 23-year-old, who has also been linked to West Ham, impressed last year, despite only keeping one clean sheet all season. It is believed that there is a £500,000 release clause in Gerken's U's contract.

However, Gerken recently committed his future to the U's and revealed how he is looking forward to being the first keeper to feature at the U's new stadium.

The Southend-born stopper made his U's debut against Brentford, in 2004. After making a handful of appearances in the U's historic promotion winning campaign in 2005/06, Gerken drew the attention of England goalkeeping coach Ray Clemence. In the U's maiden Championship season, Gerken finally ousted Aiden Davison as the U's number one keeper and has not looked back since.

So will Deano jump ship and leave North Essex? Or will he stay loyal to the U's? We want to know YOUR thoughts?

Well if it's in the Daily Star it must be true!!! Seriously though he looks ok, but nothing spectacular.

I don't think he will go. At both clubs he would more than likely sit on the bench and that won't exactly enhance his career. Richard Wrights transfer from Ipswich to Arsenal is a good example- he then went onto warm the bench at Everton and West Ham.

Yeah think he will be number two at both clubs. Paddy Kenny and Marcus Hahnemann are going to be favoured over him. Am confident he'll stay after saying he wants to the first keeper at Cuckoo Farm.

I garee with you stevie, would he want to join either of these clubs when he's only likely to be a number 2.
