Wilnis: U's Would Be 'Fab'

Veteran defender Fabian Wilnis has admitted he would be keen on a move to the U's following his release by Ipswich.

The U's are one of a number of clubs interested in recruiting the 37-year-old. Wilnis is currently based in Ipswich and is keen to stay there, making Colchester his number one choice.

Wilnis told TWDT.co.uk: 'I have some offers to consider and a couple of meetings planned with other clubs this week. Colchester would be ideal, but we must wait and see on that one.

'It is a big decision for me to make. Do I opt for a one-year playing deal or for a deal where I can combine playing with coaching for a season?

'My aim is to become a coach and I have to consider this and what will be best for me.'

The Dutch full-back started out with NAC Breda, spending six years with the club. In 1996, Wilnis signed for De Graafschap and featured over a 100 times in a 3 year spell. A move to the Tractor Boys followed and Wilnis went on to play 252 games for the Portman Road outfit. The 2005/06 supporters' Player of the Year is set to have a testimonial with Town.

Wilnis recently passed his UEFA B coaching badge, so is looking at possible coaching roles too.

He may be getting on a bit but he would still do a good job in League One.

Hmm Why Do We Get Ipswich Rejects Tho We Need Young Fresh Talent

Dunno, think we would need him as a coach as well if he was to make a good signing. Wouldn't want a Teddy Sheringham or Danny Granville repeat!
