'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Tributes Pour In For 'Mr Colchester'

Colchester United's departing skipper Karl Duguid has received a number of glowing tributes.

Speaking to the official U's website:

'Karl has been a long time servant to the club and he is now coming towards the end of his career and wants the opportunity to play in the Championship and deserves his chance.' - U's chairman Robbie Cowling.

'Karl has been a part of the furniture for many years and has been a good servant to Colchester United.

'He felt that the time was right to move on at this stage in his career and we wish him the best for the future.' - U's Chief Executive Marie Partner.

'It was a extremely sad moment when the news broke earlier that Karl Duguid will be leaving the U's for Plymouth Argyle.

'Karl is something of a rare commodity in football these days, as demonstrated by his loyalty, professionallism and attitude throughout his 14 successful years at Layer Road.

'A 'do anything, play anywhere' sort of player, who would both excite the U's faithful and infuriate the opposition with his commitment to the cause.

'As others will say, Karl truly was the Mr Colchester United of his era. He would do anything for anyone, and had a special relationship with the vast majority of U's fans that many footballers that I can think of would envy.

'On behalf of the CUSA, I would like to send nothing but the very best wishes to Karl, who deserves every bit of good luck and success in his new career with Plymouth.' - Colchester United Supporters' Association chairman, Jon Burns.
