Williams Happy With Signings

Colchester United manager Geraint Williams has revealed he is happy with his progress in the summer transfer market.

Williams has recruited three defenders; Matt Heath, from Leeds, Matt Lockwood, from Nottingham Forest and, most recently, Paul Reid, from Barnsley.

'Anyone who watched us play last year will know that's where our problems lay, so it was where we had to look to first in terms of bringing players in,' Williams told CU-FC.com.

'That doesn't mean that we are finished in the transfer market though.

'A number of players have left in a number of positions and we will be looking to strengthen all over, but it was important to sort the back line first.'

Reid, who is 26-years-old, used to skipper Barnsley, so will add character to the U's squad.

'We are delighted to welcome Paul to the club as we have been talking to him for a little while, and are glad to have the deal sorted,' he continued.

'Something we have always looked at is the character of those we're bringing in, and if they are good players alongside that then it can only bode well for us.

'Obviously, we are looking for a new captain at the club and I would expect that there will be a number of candidates who would put themselves forward and show great pride in leading this football club.'
