Williams: No Sympathy

Colchester United manager Geraint Williams has revealed that his Luton Town counterpart Mick Harford wouldn't want his sympathy.

The duo, who two season ago worked together, will be situated in opposing dugouts tonight, as the U's take on the Hatters in a pre-season friendly. Harford's side are set to begin next season in League Two with -30 points.

The Welshmen told fanzine myfootballwriter: 'Mick wouldn't want me to have sympathy for him because he certainly doesn't feel sorry for himself, and he certainly wouldn't want anyone to feel sorry for him.

'He won't be letting anyone at Luton feel sorry for themselves! I read the quotes in the paper the other day saying 'we've just got to get 78 points' and that's Mick.

'He'll have them rallying, have them fired up and no doubt have them playing good football as well.'

The U's will follow up tonight's game at Kenilworth Road, with a match against Bromley tomorrow evening.

Williams added: 'Obviously no disrespect to Bromley but you'd expect the Luton game to be the tougher of the two.

'We are building up to the season and I think that will be a hard game at Luton Town and we think will perform well and win the game.

'That's how we structure the pre-season so that as we get nearer, it going to get harder and we've got Luton, there'll be another game at Bromley and then obviously we've got Norwich City after that.

'So that's the way we geared pre-season, and every step is a bit harder now, the players have got to take that on board and so far we are.'
