Skippy The New Skipper

Colchester United have officially named Chris Coyne as their new club captain.

The Australian international takes over the reigns from Karl Duguid, who recently joined Plymouth Argyle. The ex-Luton Town man has been given the armband ahead of Johnnie Jackson.

U's chief Geraint Williams told CU-FC.com: 'With Karl leaving after his long service, we had to appoint a new skipper. We have chosen Chris and he is delighted to accept.

'He has been a leader on and off since he joined and I am sure that the rest of his players will give him their full support.'

Coyne, who also skippered Luton, said: 'It's a great honour and obviously I will do my best for Colchester United,' he said.

'It is a position that I relish both on and off the pitch and I am happy to be the voice of the dressing room when we need to liaise with the manager.

'There are a lot of leaders in the team and that can only be a good thing and, even with the armband, I won't do anything differently, I will always be a voice on the pitch as well.'
