U's Through To Second Round

Colchester United beat Millwall 1-0 in the Johnstone's Paints Trophy, at the New Den.

The results means the U's will progress through to round two of the lower league competition. David Perkins, making his full U's debut, impressed throughout and got the goal.

Perkins, a £150,000 summer buy from League Two side Rochdale, struck with just eight minuets on the clock. There were some claims that it was an own goal, with the ball clipping Lions' goalkeeper David Forde.

The closest the home side came to scoring was through Karl Moore, his free-kick hitting the woodwork, just before the break.
