Kit Given Temporary Role

Colchester United have confirmed that Kit Symons will take charge of the U's under the role of caretaker-manager.

The U's parted company with boss Geraint Williams earlier today, the Welshmen ended a 10 year association with the Essex side. Symons, assistant to Williams, will take the first-team reigns along with reserve team coach Joe Dunne.

Symons will be hoping to impress the U's hierarchy in a bid to be given the vacancy on a permanent basis.

He told the official website: "Being a manager is something I have always wanted to do. I had a spell at Palace when I was in charge there and I really enjoyed it.

"It certainly wasn't on my agenda when I came here as Geraint's assistant, because he was someone I knew, liked and respected and I have enjoyed working alongside him.

"The results have been disappointing and we have all been frustrated by them, but this is an opportunity for myself and one I aim to take."
