U's Unlucky To Lose

Colchester United`s long run without a home win continued, as Millwall ran out undeserved winners last night.

The U`s, still looking for their first victory at the Weston Homes Community Stadium, lost 2-1 to the The Lions.

Akanni-Sunday Wasiu and Kem Izzet replaced Steven Gillespie and Anthony Wordsworth in the starting XI, as Paul Lambert took charge of his first home game.

A sloppy square pass from David Perkins, nine minutes in, was intercepted by the alert Lewis Grabban. The ex-Crystal Palace man calmly slotted the ball beyond Dean Gerken in the home goal.

On twenty-two minutes another defensive error, this time from Clive Platt, allowed the South Londoners to double their advantage. Marc Lairds deep free kick was misjudged by Platt and Paul Robinson steered a low header past Gerken from an acute angle.

The U`s, however, did pull a goal back, through midfielder Izzet, who fired home from lose-range. The goal was Izzet`s first of the season.

The home side though they had levelled, early in the second-half, when Izzet`s cross from the left took a wicked deflection and looped up, hit the underside of the cross-bar and looked like it had gone into the net. However, Referee Grant Hegley thought otherwise, and play continued, much to the home fans annoyance.

The U`s pushed till the final whistle, without success, and lost a game they deserved to win.
