Watson Becomes Luton Coach

Luton's Kevin Watson, the former Colchester United stalwart, was this week appointed as a first-team coach after recently surrendering his long-term battle with injury.

He was given the role after playing only six games for the Hatters this term since his end-of-season release from the Essex-based U's.

Watson has gone on record as "delighted" with his new coaching opportunity, and is working alongside club manager Mick Harford during a season which began in minus points for the club.

His playing career included stints at Tottenham and Reading and it was at the latter club he met the ex-United boss Parkinson, for whom he would later play.

Watson was one of the manager`s first additions to what became the best Colchester United side in history.

"It has come like a bolt out of the blue at a time when my playing career was in serious jeopardy," said Watson in the Evening Gazette this week.

"I jumped at the chance when Mick told me of his plans."
