'If It's Football, It's Vital'

U's In Brief - 07/02/09

This week started - and ended - with match postponements. Tuesday night`s away game against Millwall and this afternoon`s Stockport County home clash were both called off well in advance of the fixtures due to snow. It is the club`s third call-off of the month.

United are now due at the New Den for their clash with the Lions on March 31 and a new date for the Stockport clash will follow shortly.

The snow also left some fans stranded last weekend, says the Offical Site.'

This in the game where opposing manager, Greg Abbott said in the Express & Star that his Carlisle United side, during the 0-2 U's victory, defended like a 'pub team'.'

Matt Lockwood, Colchester United`s summer signing from Nottingham Forest, left the club on loan, in a bid to recapture some form at League Two Barnet after long injury lay-offs. He goes, having been replaced in Paul Lambert`s XI by the impressive Marc Tierney.

Meanwhile, the U`s failed to add any more signings to their roster as the transfer window closed, despite their very public pursuit of Hibernian skipper, Rob Jones.

The club had however, tried to sign gaolie Jimmy Walker, currently on loan from West Ham, but were unable to do so because of unusual holdups at the Football Association.

Manager Paul Lambert had some intereting things to say on the matter: "It's no secret that I want him permanently. The club knew a few weeks ago that I wanted Jimmy to stay longer, but we are still waiting for a response from the Football League.

He told Sky: "There doesn't seem to be any consistency. There seems to be one rule for some and one rule for others, whether you are a big club or not. It's all very confusing, with some players signing before and others after the deadline has passed.

"People don't know where they stand. We sent our stuff through on time, but we've had two days without a response. Every club should be treated the same". To read the full report, click here.

Lambert was also named League One Manager of the Month as Colchester now remain undefeated in 9 league outings.

That was in the same week as United's previous manager, Geraint Williams, returned to a relegation dog-fight with league strugglers, Leyton Orient.
