Lambert Still Has Promotion In Sight

Lambert Still Has Promotion In Sight

Paul Lambert still thinks that the 'play-offs are still on,' despite the U's disappointing defeat to Walsall.

The U's wasted a number of chances early on, and were made to pay as the visitors went into the break two goals to the good. To read Vital Colchester's match report, click here.

Post-match Lambert said: 'Goals change games. Jamie (Guy) had a couple of early one-on-ones, and maybe he should have scored from at least one of them.

'But he then lost one of his contact lenses, which is why I had to take him off at half-time. His vision was blurred and he didn't have a spare set.

'We had more half-chances in the second-half, and had a goal disallowed for offside (Paul Reid),'
he rued.

'However, I still think that the play-offs are still on. Nothing much has changed. We are still in a position to do something.'

Saddlers counterpart Chris Hutchings said, following their third game without defeat: 'I'm very pleased to get three points against a very good side in Colchester.

'We didn't start too well and Colchester had a good chance early on. Manny (Smith) came on early because of an injury (to Rhys Weston), and he did well against some dangerous strikers.

'Colchester got behind us a few times, and on another day we could have conceded. But that's three matches unbeaten for us, and we're closing the gap on Colchester,'
he concluded.

So do you agree with Lambert that the U's still have a chance of making the play-offs, and possible promotion? Or will we be spending another season in League One?

No chance , we can't play good against teams above us let alone win / score.

... maybe even another run of games like we just had won't be enough. These two games were key because you've got to beat those around you to climb the table. Lambert will bring in another striker, as Guy was unlucky and didn't take his chance. Only the lad's second ever U's start - ever - and he is the sqaud's third current longest-serving player!

Yeah, cant really see us getting a play-off spot, think we have just got to really go for it next season, seems like Lambert is building a good squad.

Oh, yeah: very happy with the sqaud. Most of the lads here should say - sell Sunday and give Guy a run in the side. He's the right man for the job, at the moment. Things look good under him!

... also the club has a policy that doesn't make snse. Claiming there is no future in youth development with the recent cut-backs, yet still buying players in the market. Investment in youth teams must remain a part of the club.

The fact that Southend are near us in the table, but that they have no chance of promotion, probably shows with irony that we are not going to win promotion this year. The first Essex Derby this season was a great game!

Who'd wanna buy Sunday??? Think he's out-of-contract anyway. Yeah, the match was top quality at Roots Hall until stoppage time!! lol

We need to sell Coyne , Heath , Ifil , Lockwood , Possibly Vernon and Gillespie if anyone would be stupid enough to ffer 400k + , try and get gobern on perm , Sunday has only a year contract so Lambert wont renew it.

Reckon Coyne will go, think Heath, however, would be handy back up, but depends on if we keep going for Rob Jones in the summer. Don't think we should get rid of both Lockwood and Ifil, as you need cover. Is just so annoying that Gillespie can't get fit! Defo should try to get Gobern permanently.
