Late Show See U's Crash Out Of Cup

The U's crashed out of the Essex Senior Cup, at the semi-final stage, losing 2-1 to Chelmsford City, at the Melbourne Stadium.

The U's fielded a side with a mix of youth and experience, with first-teamers Mark Cousins, John White, Matt Heath, Anthony Wordsworth, Medy Elito and Akanni-Sunday Wasiu all featuring.

Wordsworth fired the visitors into a lead, on seventeen minutes, finishing well from the edge of the area.

It looked as though his goal was going to be enough to put the U's through, only for Jason Hallett to smash the ball home in the ninetieth minute.

In injury time City were awarded a soft penalty, and ex-Colchester man Dave Rainford slotted home to complete a remarkable turn-around for the hosts.

U's: Cousins, White (Griffiths 60), Heath (Bailey-Dennis 65), Nelson, J. Hammond, Wordsworth, Corcoran, Malton, Elito, Sansford, Wasiu.
