Club captain, Chris Coyne, has told World Game Special Broadcasting Service that he is considering his Colchester future after interest from Australian League club, Perth Glory.
The defender has struggled to hold down a first-team place this season with the U`s, and remains skipper in name only as midfielder Dean Hammond has been leading on-field.
He did however call speculation over a done deal, after his approach from their manager, David Mitchell, "a bit premature."
Coyne has only played 12 times for the Essex outfit this season, in a period that has seen him hampered by injuries.
This week, he reaffirmed his commitment to Colchester`s cause, although hinted that he has some thinking to do.
"First and foremost, I'm a Colchester player and at this stage I expect to be kick-starting next season with them. I think the link between myself and Glory has probably been blown a little out of proportion," he admitted.
Coyne went on: "I still have plenty of time on my contract with Colchester - so I don`t have to make hasty decisions. I need to speak to people I trust to come to the right decisions and I also have to be honest with clubs back home."
He said he would not be returning to Oz without the assurances for national-team manager, Pim Verbeek, that a move was right for him.
Coyne, a proud representative of his country, is openly worried that such a transfer might impact on his chances of selection for Australia.
Verbeek has previous called the A-League, only four years old, a step-down from European standards of football.
Coyne confirmed that he is now only a week away from being available again for selection in a Colchester shirt.
