Crocked Reid Out For Season

Colchester United defender Paul Reid has been ruled out for the rest of the season after sustaining a knee injury.

The former Barnsley centre-half picked up the injury in last week's game at Huddersfield and a scan has revealed bad news for the U's and Reid.

U's manager Paul Lambert told the EADT: 'Paul Reid's knee cap had been giving us a bit of cause for concern, and the results of the scan suggest that he will be out for the rest of the season.'

However, Chris Coyne, who replaced the crocked Reid on Saturday impressed alongside Pat Baldwin at the heart of the defence, as the U's earned a vital win against Oldham. Forward Clive Platt scored the only goal, in a game which saw the U's back-line keep a cleansheet in Reid's absence. To read Vital Colchester's match report, click here.

Lambert commented: 'But I thought that Chris Coyne and Pat Baldwin were fantastic this afternoon. Chris had not played for a while and he was running on empty for the last 20 minutes.

'In fact I thought the whole back four were great, and young Mark Cousins made a couple of good saves in the second half.'

Ironically a week or so ago the U's had four fit central defenders on their books. But with Matt Heath leaving on loan, along with Reid's injury, now they have just two... Football's a funny game!

So will Reid be a big loss for the U's? Or do the U's have able cover in Chris Coyne?

Shame as he has started to look really strong and formed a good partnership with Baldwin. Still, it gives Coyne a chance to cement a first team place.

Yeah, has looked ace all season but like you say it certainly gives Coyne a chance to prove his worth.

Well think Coyne, when on form, is an able deputy.
