'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Lambert Heaps Praise On U's Players

Colchester manager Paul Lambert labelled the character and determination shown by the U's player as 'absolutely first class,' in last night's win over Swindon Town.

The U's ran out 3-2 winner at the Weston Homes Community Stadium, with Clive Platt netting a brace. The visitors drew level twice to make it a hard victory for the U's. To read Vital Colchester's match report, click here.

Post-match Lambert said: 'We could have had three or four goals early on and we had some great chances, but Swindon came back into the game strongly.

'They are fighting for their lives and they had a really good result against MK Dons at the weekend. But our character and determination to come back into the game was absolutely first class.'

The ex-Celtic hero also enthused about how happy he is with the U's current form, now unbeaten in five.

He commented: 'I cannot fault the lads for grinding out the results. It's great to see the players running for us. The way we are playing at the minute is really, really pleasing.

'We see the same sort of thing on the training ground and we always try and play with the same intensity.'
