'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Lambert: Neal Would Head Kitchen Sink!

COLCHESTER UNITED manager Paul Lambert was quick to praise new-boy Neal Trotman after a sensational debut for the U's.

The on-loan Preston North End centre-back performed impressively in the U's 1-1 draw against Leicester City on Saturday. To read Vital Colchester's match report, click here.

Lambert even said sarcastically how he thinks Trotman would head a kitchen sink if it came into the penalty area!

Post-match the Scotsman said: 'I thought Neal Trotman (Preston loanee) was excellent on his debut. In fact, that was just about the best debut I have seen. Neal is a centre-half who will head a kitchen sink if it comes into the box!'

After only signing on Thursday the ex-Oldham man has been swift to earn plaudits from Lambert and fans alike.

The U's boss also commented on how he would sing him permanently if given the funds but revealed any move would be unlikely. Trotman, 22, joined the Deepdale outfit just over 12 months ago for around £500,000.

'Give me a million pounds and I will sign him. But I guess we have just got him for eight or so matches,' he concluded.

Fellow North End loanee, front-man Karl Hawley, also debuted for the U's in the Midlands.
