MARK YEATES, Colchester United's Irish magician, believes he should have left the Walkers Stadium with a brace of goals to his name, on Saturday.
However, the former Tottenham Hotspur youngster did manage to score once against Leicester, as the U's drew 1-1. The 24-year-old curled home a perfectly flighted free-kick beyond the reach of Tony Warner in the home goal. To read Vital Colchester's match report, click here.
Yeates revealed that The Foxes' loanee stopper Warner denied him a second goal, when clean through, by saving with his face!
Following the game, Yeates told the EADT: 'I should have scored a second goal, but the keeper ended up saving that one with his face!'
'He (Warner) is a very good keeper, but he didn't know much about that one. I got through on goal, and felt that I should have scored, but then he was their man-of-the-match,' the U's man highlighted how he thought Warner put in a man-of-the-match display.
Yeates, before joining the U's permanently, nearly two years ago, spent a temporary three-month spell with Leicester.
He expressed his delight at scoring against his former employers: 'It's always nice to go back to one of your old clubs and score, so I was happy to curl home that free-kick.'
Yeates is currently the U's leading marksmen this season, with ten goals to his name.
'I've scored several free-kicks since I've been at Colchester, but we all feel that this is one game that got away. The fans will be happy that we gave a good account of ourselves, but this was two points dropped,' he concluded.
So should Yeates have scored twice?
