Colchester United`s resistant defender, John White has recalled the side`s promotion season of 2005/6, where they also faced Chelsea, as "incredible."
22-year-old White was reflecting ahead of today`s game at Hush Park. United faced Yeovil Town three years ago in the exact-same last day fixture.
That season, Colchester also played Chelsea in the F.A. Cup, and opened the scoring in that game with a team which cost a fraction of the price.
"It was a massive thing in my career. It`s up there alongside my favourite memories so far. It was more a case of apprehension than nerves on the day,' he said in the Colchester Daily Gazette.
"It was an incredible feeling. It was over the whole season and it was a feeling that we had been playing for from start to finish."
Colchester United fans will be hoping that Paul Lambert can fashion a side to challenge for the top next season, although the real surprise was that the club were considered candidates to suffer relegation that year.
Please feel free to tell us about your experience of the 2005/6 season, and winning promotion. Can United do it next season?
