U's Knock Back 300k Yeates Bid

COLCHESTER UNITED yesterday are believed to have received a £300,000 bid for winger Mark Yeates.

The offer, from Championship side Bristol City, was promptly rejected by the U's. Yeates' contract at the Weston Homes Community Stadium only runs for one more season and, with the risk of losing him for free, they are prepared to cash in.

However, with fellow Championship outfits Sheffield United and Crystal Palace interested, the U's are keen for a larger sum of money in return for Yeates.

The heavy interest in Yeates will come as no surprise, with the Irishman hitting 13 goals from midfield for the U's last season.

So what sort of fee would you expect the U's to command for Yeates?

£300 is too cheap - the guy is an excellent playmaker and a cracking deadball expert...hold out for £600k. Watford were interested a few seasons back and so were Palace so he has a few suitors. The board are well advised to turn this down and start a bidding war.

Yep, but only having one year on his contract will make the fee be 500k tops IMO.

Don't think he would sign for Bristol City anyway.

Why not?
