Bristol Quiet On Yeates Bid

Bristol City manager Gay Johnson has twice refused to comment on speculation linking his side with Mark Yeates.

United`s wing wonder has just a year left on his current contract as is being courted reportedly by the Championship side. Gareth Southgate`s Middlesbrough have also been strongly touted to take the player from the Weston Homes Community Stadium.

"The bids are still out there," Johnson told Sky Sports yesterday afternoon.

He refused to confirm or deny that the Irishman was one of those active bids. It is thought that £300,000 had been offered to Colchester, although that fee must have come as a enquiry only as U`s manager Paul Lambert says there have been no formal approaches.

"These things take time as there are a lot of representatives to talk to and people are keeping their options open. We are just waiting. You make the best offers you can and you wait to see if that club or that player will accept the terms. We are close to a couple and the other couple are biding their time."

The local press again reiterated today that Bristol City are unwilling to confirm an official interest in Yeates.

500k and a deal I would say! And then give Lambert the money. . .
