Boss: Players Must Run Through Walls For Me

Wheeling and dealing is the name of the game for Colchester United this summer.

Manager Paul Lambert has called it unrealistic to demand budgets of millions of pounds as the global credit crunch apparently bites in Essex.

Talking to the BBC, he said: "This club doesn`t have the same resources as what it had when we were in the Championship or the even at the start of last season.

"You have to wheel and deal as such, and get hungry players. Not players who are content to sit here and think about seeing out the rest of their careers."

Lambert wants to try to get good money for talent that he nurtures, if they are not content with staying at the club.

But he is confident that David Fox and Ashley Vincent will reward the faith shown in them by the club, as both are on three-year contacts.

"I need a group of lads who will work for me. I`m not going to sit here and say I want a budget of three or four million pounds.

"I want a group of lads that are going to run through walls for me," he finished.

Will the U's be able to resist a big-money offer?

Am quite surprised to see us handing out three-year deals considering Lambert was frustrated that this happened to others before... Heath, Ifil, etc...

Does Lambert mean he wants to sign ghosts?
