U`s: No Fee Agreed For Williams

Colchester United will hold talks with surprise transfer target Ben Williams when manager Paul Lambert returns from holiday tomorrow.

The Daily Gazette today reports that a fee hasn`t yet been agreed for the Carlisle stopper, contrary to earlier reports following the revelations of Colchester`s interest on Saturday morning.

"He is a goalkeeper with an impressive heritage, having started at Manchester United," said U`s Chief Executive, Steve Bradshaw.

"He had a terrific second half of the season for Carlisle and contributed to them being successful in retaining their status in the division."

"I think the fact that he has experience and has learnt his trade at this level will mean that he can fit in very nicely with Paul Lambert`s plans."

An announcement on the reported "complication" that could scupper any agreement has not yet been clarified by Carlisle manager, Greg Abbott, after mostly unfounded speculation that any transfer could involve a player-swap.

Striker Scott Vernon has been suggested as a possible target and the East Anglian Daily Times notes in today`s edition that Carlisle`s squad is already top-heavy with defenders, increasing the chances that any makeweight is an attacker.

So what is Lambert thinking?

Seems strange.... I would probably have Walker over Williams if I'm honest now we've got some space on the wage bill.
