Transfer News: Gerken Leaves For Bristol

Colchester United goalkeeper Dean Gerken has left the club with a move to Bristol City completed this afternoon.

The 24-year-old departs for an undisclosed sum and ends a eight-year association with the U's in the process. Carlisle United stopper Ben Williams looks set to replace Gerken on the U's 'keeping books.

The Southend-born player penned a two-year deal at Ashton Gate after making 119 appearances in his spell with the U's.

Gerken told the club's official site: 'I was thankful for my chance at Colchester and enjoyed my time at the club.

Since boss Paul Lambert joined the club it has been made clear that he was not a fan of Gerken's.

'A new manager came in this season and had a different view on how we wanted to take the club forward,' Gerken added.

The deal will comes as disappointing news for many U's followers, who will be sad to see him leave.

Vital Colchester would like wish Dean the best of luck and thank him for his efforts.

So what do you think? Happy? Sad?

Well, really, really sad to see him go, great 'keeper in my eyes. Really hope Lambert knows what he's doing with getting rid of Dean and bringing in Williams. If not he can **** off back to Scotland!

You could be left in a pickle after getting rid of Gerken.

I'm sure Dean is sick of that joke, but hey it still makes me smile!!
Matt_Us
What on earth is Lambert doing??
ooohhJohnnieJackson
Only he knows!!!
Matt_Us
I really am starting to get a bit worried about next season. Hope Lambert doesn't do what he did at Wycombe and walk out when the going gets tough after getting rid of our best players!
StevieG Col U
Very strange. Maybe the offer was too good for us to turn down. Any ideas what the actually fee was? I hate it nowadays that pretty much all transfers are 'undisclosed' aren't they.
up_the_u's_aaron
Yeah, but it's probably best fans don't find out! I reckon about £350,000, although if we knew, we'd all think it should be higher.
Matt_Us
I would hope for something around 500k but reckon its more 300k.
StevieG Col U
i have heard around 100k
ooohhJohnnieJackson
What? That's disgusting!
Matt_Us
That is ridiculous. He's still very young and with him doign well in the Championship, I'd say he's worth at least 500k! But didn' they offer like 200k for Yeates, which is wayyyyyy off!
up_the_u's_aaron
Agreed!
Matt_Us
:o If it was a 100k then what the hell are we doing????!??????
StevieG Col U
Selling ourselves donw the actaul river!
