Three Reports Say Vernon Out - Nothing Confirmed

The BBC, East Anglian Daily Times & News & Star are all reporting that Scott Vernon is the makeweight in a potential swap deal with Carlisle`s Ben Williams.

That`s despite Paul Lambert and Gregg Abbott trying to keep the deal out of the public eye while finalising terms.

Abbott is quoted in the EADT as saying that fans would be "really pleased" with the deal if it goes through, with both players and managerial staff having been negotiating since news broke last Saturday.

"We don't know what the deal could be yet. It could be a deal with another player from Colchester or it could be a cash thing. That is something we have to look into," Abbottsaid on the reliable BBC.

This afternoon, a frankly dubious report from the News & Star claims that stiker Vernon has been selected as the deal`s smoother, without naming any sources for the information. Carlisle did confirm yesterday that goalie Williams has been in Essex, attempting to reach a contract agreement. He has now return to Carlisle for pe-season training.

An announcement from Colchester to confirm Williams as successor to ex-stopper Dean Gerken, who left for Bristol City this week, is expected at the weekend.

Will Vernon go?

Think the Vernonator will go, not sure about the 'keeper deal...

If Williams dont come here, Vernon wont be going there. But surely it will happen as we have already sold Deano. We only have Mark Cousins atm.

Both will happen, I'd like to bet!

I really don't want this Williams fella, he doesn't seem rated by Carlisle fans!
