Williams Deal Sealed?

The Official Website says Ben Williams will finally complete his move from Carlisle after a medical today.

It is a transfer which has been bubbling under since the weekend and Scott Vernon`s withdrawal as a makeweight in the opposing direction.

The striker was previously offered as bait during negotiations but rejected the change to leave Essex when approached, as reported here.

Colchester took the unusual step of talking to Williams before even agreeing a concrete fee for Williams.

On the deal, Carlisle manager Greg Abbott confirmed that he expects Williams to leave, saying: "Paul Lambert [U`s manager] has been phoning me about Ben Williams for a while now and, as you know, we tied to tie up any deal that was going on with a swap for Scott Vernon.

"When that fell through, Paul indicated he still wanted to take Ben, and he has now come to an agreement with the player."

Williams will replace Dean Gerken at United, who moved to Bristol City last week.

Will Williams finally sign?
