Sheringham Tips Messi... For Sunderland?!

Former U`s, Manchester United and England veteran Teddy Sheringham, one day tipped for a return to the game as a manager, has told 4-4-2 Magazine that, in an ideal world, Barcelona`s Lionel Messi would play for Sunderland.

Is this proof that being out of the game for too long really does make you mellow? "You can`t look beyond Lionel Messi , Sheringham says in this month`s issue. "It would be nice to see him as the star man at somewhere like Sunderland."

Sheringham, 43, did admit however that realistically the world`s current best player could only end up at a top four side in England. He should probably know better, as such careless talk is what starts rumours!

"I would love to go back to 22, and live it all over again," Teddy also said in the feature, when asked what he would do if he could go back to the start of his footballing stint.

Teddy spent his final season of a glittering career at Colchester United in 2007-8 but retired after netting four goals in sixteen matches.

He has since been working as a pundit for ITV and coached Everton Ladies for charity.

Is Super Ted right, would it be a great for Sunderland to sign Messi?

Future Col Utd manager??? Would be an excellent coup, not ebcause of what his managerial abilities may be, but what players he could potentially attract to the club. It seems to be that a manager doesn't have to be the best in the world, but just has to have a lot of ties in the game to be able to bring in quality players.

Quite possibly, quite possibly! He loves Spurs, and so would probably go there. Maybe us first, though, you never know...

Possibly. But as they say, it's best to start in League 1 or 2, and not in the Prem.

Not sure myself whether he'll make a good manager...
