'If It's Football, It's Vital'

U's Target Holt Focused On Shrews

Grant Holt has insisted he is focused on earning promotion with currently club Shrewsbury Town, despite strong interest from Paul Lambert.

Lambert, and Colchester United, launched a six-figure bid for last season's League Two joint top-scorer. However, the offer, believed to be £250,000, was promptly rejected by the Shropshire club.

And the U's have cooled their interest in the front-man, with no further bid being made.

Speaking to the Shropshire Star, the former Nottingham Forest man said: 'Colchester put a bid in and it's very flattering that people are interested in signing you.

And Holt went on to reiterate his commitment to Paul Simpson's side.

'I enjoy being at the football club and I'm looking forward to getting going again now,' he commented.

Holt concluded: 'I'm here to do the job we wanted to do last season which is get promoted. I strongly believe we can do it this year, but only time will tell.'

The U's hunt for a more attacking power has lead rumours to be rife linking a long list of forwards to the Weston Homes Community Stadium. Jermaine Easter, a former U's loanee, Paul Benson, of Dagenham & Redbridge and young goal poacher Reuben Reid are a few to name.

So it looks like any deal for Holt is dead?

We "flattered" him - let's hope we sign the next one! Up the U's!

Well hasn't Lisbe been left out of Ipswich pre season tour squad??? Also has gone against Roy Keane by not moving his family to Ipswich and could be on his way out.......you never know he may move back to us - i'm sure Ipswich didn't pay all the fee in one go so could take him back by wiping some of the balance off the monies ownd - just a thought

Welcome to the site, Living in Exile. ;-) Yep, Lisbie doesn't seem to have a future at Portman Road. Could be good, would easily get 15 goals in L1.
