Gerken & Coyne In PL Parting Shots

Colchester United cepartees, Chris Coyne and Dean Gerken, have both confirmed that differences with manager Paul Lambert lead in part to them leaving.

Gerken, 24, and Coyne, 30, were firm first-team choices at United under former club boss Geraint Williams, but fell out of favour under the new regime.

The ex-U`s goalie tells The Bristol Evening Post today: "I had been at Colchester for six or seven years and it was time to move on,' Gerken added.

"I didn't see eye-to-eye with the Colchester manager and to come to Bristol City is a great move for me to a bigger club in a higher league," ruminated Gerken on his long-anticipated transfer.

He also said he will work hard to replace current stopper, Adriano Basso, and that playing in the Championship is something he really wants to experience.

Meanwhile, Coyne, who today finally joined Perth Glory on a three year-deal to end a seemingly never-ending transfer saga, recapped in full here. He told the Evening Gazette: "These things happen in football and they happen for a reason."

"The manager made it clear that he would be bringing in a new centre-half and I`m not the sort of player who is prepared to sit in the stands and take my money every week."

Is this inevitable with any new manager at any team?

Hope he knows what he's doing by getting rid of Gerken and bringing in Williams...
