Jamie Guy`s possible move to League Two Port Vale is off but the U`s have at last agreed to pay £65,000 in compensation for defender, Magnus Okuonghae.
So, actually the headline is misleading as it is not strickly fresh news.
Guy`s move had been reported by us as very much on last Friday, although ex-U`s man, Micky Adams stayed tellingly mute on the transfer. He now says, talking to BBC Radio Stoke: "It was all agreed that he would sign on Friday, but he's gone back to Colchester now for a knee operation."
How`s your luck, Jamie? Still no word as to the extent of the hurt, however; safe to say, if he`s back with the U`s, it`s something that would take a little more than a magic sponge to sort. Presumably it was something discovered during a medical.
Yesterday`s other update with a hint of transfer about it concerns Okuonghae and paying what Chief Executive Steve Bradshaw told the Press was a "fair reflection" of his value.
On instalment of £45,000 is due up front, following a further £20,000 maximum in various add-ons: a £65,000.
At least now it`s all sorted the club`s man-mountain won`t suffer any distractions like being kidnapped by the football police on grounds of non-payment. Charlton, who also wanted the player, might not be so happy about it, though.
Here`s the handy list of criteria the Football League use to judge tribunal fees:
How much both clubs spend on their Academy / Centre of Excellence.
Player age.
How long he has been at the club.
Statistics / playing record.
The status of the two clubs.
Terms offered by either side.
Amount of interest there was in signing the player.
The fee the original club paid initially for the player.
Did Colchester get off lightly? Hard to tell.![]()
So what do you think?
