Colchester`s former Brighton midfielder, Dean Hammond, thinks striker Scott Vernon could start alongside Kevin Lisbie against Yeovil Town.
The U`s will be without a suspended Clive Platt, who starts a three-match ban, leaving just inexperienced new signing, Joel Thomas and Vernon in selection contention in attack. The U`s will once again be without the injured Steven Gillespie and Jamie Guy.
"Obviously Scott Vernon`s had a really good pre-season, come back fit and scored some goals. He`s looking very sharp. Gilly [Gillespie] is injured at the moment and we`ve got Joel who is a big strong lad settling in now. There`s a few options."
Since Thomas was used neither when named as a substitute at the end of the Norwich City rout in the opening round of games, nor late on when on the U`s had all-but lost this week`s League Cup tie, his inclusion would be surprising.
Hammond, speaking on Dream 100 FM, added that striker Lisbie has had a positive impact on the squad since his return from Ipswich Town.
"Lis is a great player and he did well here before when we were in the Championship. He`s a great lad and an experienced player who just gives us that little bit extra with the pace and his goal-scoring record."
As for challenging in Platt`s absence, look like it`s over to the Vernonator.![]()
