'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Arsenal 'Do A Colchester' Over Everton!

Who dares mention plucky Colchester United in the same breath as Mr. Wenger`s all-hailing Gunners? We do!

-Comment-

Colchester`s plucky pitch-up at the top-of-table continued today as fans looked on at the club who will probably prize from them the LMA Performance Of The Week Award.

After last weekend`s fantastic record-breaking 7-1 win in League One, the U`s continued their winning start in the league season with an generally-impressive victory against Yeovil Town today, while Arsenal were taking our lessons in finishing to the Premier League's blue touch-paper by dishing out a beating.

7-1 to us last week, 6-1 for them this. We`re in good company - our win-win in succession is teaching Vital, for one, to love football`s pitch-based geometry in way it was never made so marvellously fun at school.

You think comparing the U`s with Arsenal is a bit too arrogant? O'contraire! It is they who emulated our standard, set last weekend. Doing A Colchester - look it up, it`s quite infectious, you know!

Plus, it`s fun to speculate just how far Arsenal`s emphatic start might mirror ours and our subsequent story over the last seven or so days. Will the Gunners rush to issue limited-edition DVDs and flog them to opportunist Liverpool fans?

This gloating is only spilling its way onto the page because secretly I`ve got vertigo and don`t think Colchester can forever maintain their currently lofty position.

Take events to their logical conclusion, however, and David Moyes might get the sack, alas Bryan Gunn, before too long.

Perhaps not. But you heard it here first. Or rather saw it here first - last week.

Sing it now: 'We are top of the league, say...'
