'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Perkins Request Piles Pressure On U's

Colchester United midfield-man David Perkins has sadly asked for a move away from the club.

Caretaker manager Joe Dunne revealed the request from the diminutive midfielder shortly after today's loss at MK Dons.

He confirmed to the EADT: 'David wants to leave the club. If someone comes in then he can go, but hopefully he will change his mind.

It is understood the former Rochdale man is keen to find regular first-team football, with a move back North his preference.

'David is still giving 100% to the cause, but he says that he wants to be playing regular football,' Dunne, who named Perkins on the bench this afternoon, explained.

Dunne comically added: 'He handed in his transfer request last night, as if I didn't have enough things on my plate!'

The 27-year-old enjoyed a mixed maiden campaign with the U's, but overall impressed fans, who will be disappointed at the news, with his action-packed performances.

Perkins has compounded the U's turmoil in a week of uplift at the Weston Homes Community Stadium, which has seen the U's management team leave, along with skipper Dean Hammond.

The U's are now likely to add another central midfielder to their squad before the Summer Transfer Window draws to a close - after losing Johnnie Jackson, Hammond and Perkin's likely departure.

He KNOWS he'll get a game.... why not stay? :(
Matt_Us
I just find it disappointing players dont understand about fighting their way into the team. They all seem to think they have divine right to be a first team regular and play every game.

Agreed! Now pull your socks up Perky, nuckle down and fight your way back into a starting place!
ooohhJohnnieJackson
Could be family reasons - and now it means we NEED a new CM for sure before end of window. New manager will have two/three days to sign someone... wish he could have Alan Pardew in charge, his signings for Saints have been class!
Matt_Us
But due to the fact he has a spent a lot of money! Well, family reasons have been mentioned! Are central midfield looked great a week ago, now not so....
StevieG Col U
I see he's not getting any younger at 27 - can't say I'd like him to go. Sadly, I think he is a bit too much Kem Izzet... same age almost as well... althogh Perks can score goals which Kem can't. Was played too much in wide areas last season and now looks like he doesn't want to fight for his place. If he is going to go and doesn't want to stay, go now and have done with it!
Matt_Us
At the start of the season we were inundated with central midfielders and now we are looking somewhat lightweight.
ooohhJohnnieJackson
He's definitely not a winger, where he has played a lot, and is a bit lightweight and can get knocked off the ball to easily...
StevieG Col U
Loss of Hammond, Jackson and probably Perkins... all quality on thier day! Any suggestions for replacements?
Matt_Us
Carl Baker at Stockport... although he is a winger!
StevieG Col U
I don’t think we should have even considered the transfer request until a new manager came in... bit of an attitude / money-chasing problem from Perkins there. He should wait until Christmas, at least. At least his mate, Gillespie, can't go....although nobody would buy him! Maybe Gilly is the new marino Keith, do hope not!!
