Col U: The Race To Replace - Day Seven

And on day seven, we rested? No chance...!

Vital Colchester brings you all the latest in the race to replace Paul Lambert since his Norwich City switch...

The East Anglian Daily Times reminded readers that time on the transfer deadline clock is ticking and therefore that puts pressure on U`s owner and Chairman, Robbie Cowling, to sift through his selection papers a little quicker in finding Colchester`s next manager.

They tipped Mark Kinsella or Matt Holland as possible outside candidates in a long list which club Chief Executive, Steve Bradshaw said in the Evening Gazette the applicants include a wide range - successful Premier League managers, proven League One bosses and ex-players who are looking into management.

One of them might be Steve Coppell, who ex-manager Steve Wignall warned Colchester to avoid, at the weekend.

Bradshaw also gave an insight into the selection process when he said that Cowling`s choice - on the precondition he is actually better than Lambert - will be final.

It is still expected that the club will only begin interviewing a final five towards the end of the week, as confirmed by Bradshaw last Thursday on Dream 100 FM: "What Norwich do is up to them - I`d like to know who we are interviewing first and Mr. Cowling feels exactly the same."

That comment came in wake of the revelation that City tried to appoint Lambert so swiftly they declined to interview him officially.

There is still no official word, however, on how much the club expect as a compensation fee for the way Norwich induced the Scot to break his Colchester contract.
