Col U: The Race To Replace - Day Nine

Zzzzz.... wake up at the back there! What do you mean, you`ve lost interest?! This is perhaps Colchester`s most-hyped managerial race in history. Don`t go so sleep - who else will keep hysterically interested if you don`t?

Vital Colchester`s dedicated day-by-day coverage comes as live as possible from the sparkling screen right before your very eyes!

Today`s top rule outs come from two respective Colchester United legends - current caretaker Joe Dunne is the first.

He effectively says on BBC Essex Radio that the standard of applicant was too high for him so stand a chance, although sadly didn`t submit a C.V. for consideration by the CUFC board. Most fans hope he will survive any cull inevitably brought on by a new boss.

Kevin Watson, he formally of Coronation Street-bashing repute and also some central midfield roaming duties, also ruminated about the post in the EADT, explaining on his Colchester chances that he himself is entirely happy for now with earning his stripes at Luton Town: "I wouldn't go behind the back of Mick Harford and apply for another job without telling him."

The club have confirmed however within the last day or so that the new manager`s first game should be an away trip to Southampton, on September 5.

As things stand for new contenders, Mark Kinsella`s name refuses to go away but the same EADT newspaper intent on tipping him also says its unlikely Paul Buckle will succeed Paul Lambert due to his long-term commitment to Torquay United and the fact that the U`s haven`t sounded him out as their sole choice.

Still no official word on yesterday`s Vital Tranmere-sourced rumour that their ex-boss, Ronnie Moore, was due to undergo an interview in Essex today. There are plenty of ill-fitting names flying around right now as well as some very intriguing ones.
