New Boss Boothroyd In Place For Tuesday?

Colchester United`s new boss may take the team to Kent for their JTP tie against Gillingham on Tuesday - latest names touted are Steve Cotterill, Paul Jewell and Glenn Roeder.

Both Ronnie Moore and Aidy Boothroyd have still strongly linked to the role, with interviews conducted throughout this week. Wild suggestions, however, say that Boothroyd, the man many Norwich fans originally wanted as Bryan Gunn's replacement, has already agreed principally to take the job in a private gentleman`s handshake.

However, speculation of such developments would represent a marked turnaround from the announcement in yesterday`s Press by the club, that they would categorically wait until next week - early September - to complete their rigorous interview process.

Caretaker Joe Dunne told the EADT: "It was always my understanding that I would be here up to the Leeds game, and then something might happen at Gillingham. The board and chairman [Robbie Cowling] have their men in mind, and I reckon they will narrow it down fairly quickly."

Perhaps Dunne knows more than he is indeed letting on, as his lack of application for consideration on the shortlist suggests.

He added: "Call it what you want, but this weekend's game is another game nearer to another manager being appointed."

Steve Cotterill gets linked to everyone but states that he wants a Championship club. He left Burnley two years ago now... You'd think he'd be getting a bit anxious now wouldn't you!?!

Is that so...? Well, he shouldn't be so picky, else no-one will want him. Sacking him obviosuly proved the best think Burnley ever did now that they are promoted but a diplomatic viewpoint would have to be that he could indeed do a job for us at Colchester.
