Exclusive: Boss On Crossing Swords With Pardew

Aidy Boothroyd told Vital Colchester on Wednesday he is looking forward to facing Southampton tomorrow as he takes the team to St. Mary`s for his first game as boss.

He has an exemplary record as manager of Watford against the Saints and his side never failed to score in five victorious ties against them.

Alan Pardew`s team, set to include Colchester old-boy, Dean Hammond, lie bottom of the table, adrift due to a financial-related points deduction.

"It will be a great game to start with - until you said they haven`t won yet! It is a big game. I know Alan Pardew very well, competed against him in the Premiership and the Championship and I like him as a guy. I`m looking forward to going down there."

Yesterday, when asked on Dream 100 FM what the game`s score might be, he predicted: "There will be a result!"

Candidly answering for this website shortly after being confirmed as manager, he was just as clever at avoiding saying anything to jinx the score.

"I`ve always had a good time at St. Mary`s - and the Southampton fans will tell you that - but they are a club which, although rock-bottom, is rising."

"It`ll be a really good game because they`ve got some good players and a really good manager," he added.
