Boys Back Boothroyd Before Big Off

Pat Baldwin and Clive Platt say they are delighted with the club`s decision this week to announce Aidy Boothroyd as the new manager. They're not the only ones!

His first game as boss is away today, against Southampton.

Platt told the Colchester Gazette: "Everyone in the squad is delighted. He`s a big name and there`s a real buzz around the changing room. We didn`t know who it was going to be, so for it to be someone of Aidy Boothroyd`s calibre is great for the club."

Stand-in skipper Baldwin, who will find out if he is Boothroyd`s club captain at today`s game, sounded like an enthusiastic fan himself, saying: "To be honest, I was very excited when I heard the news he was the new boss. He`s been a very successful manager in a short spell. He`s hungry for success like we all are."

He added, talking to the Essex County Standard, that the squad would knuckle down and work hard for their new manager.

Boothroyd`s appointment has also been backed by John-Joe O'Toole, the loan singing brought in hours before he was officially confirmed as manager. O'Toole is at Colchester for four months and has replaced ex-player and now Saint, Dean Hammond.

Good point Us but would have preferred three though. Sending off bit harsh possibly.

Would have been complaining if the boot was on the other foot and it had gone against us with the card, Dave. However, was a shock at the time!
