U's Starlet Elito Reveals Lambert Anguish

...And another Colchester United player speaks out about Paul Lambert's poor player treatment.

Highly-rated winger Medy Elito has today confessed that he came close to leaving the Weston Homes Community Stadium before former boss Lambert's shock resignation. The YTS product was frozen out of the first-team, along with Matt Lockwood, full-back Phil Ifil & forward Jamie Guy. Defensive duo John White & Matt Heath were also loaned away from the club thanks to the Scotsman's controversial management style.

Elito told the EADT: 'It's been a great turnaround for me. It's good to be back at Colchester United.

'I'm looking forward to the future now, and looking forward to kicking on.'

The England youth international declared how Lambert told him not to train with the other players - forcing him to train solo as well as with another club.

'The old manager had other plans for me. He told me that I did not show him enough.

'I was still at the club, but the manager said that he didn't want me training with the team. So I had to train on my own, as well as training at another couple of clubs,'
the 19-year-old wide-man explained.

Following Lambert's move to the U's League One rivals Norwich City, club reserve-team Joe Dunne took over first-team duties and helped to relight Elito's U's career in the process.

'I was so pleased to get the phone call from Joe. I had really, truly began to think that I would not be coming back to Colchester, not with the old manager still here. In fact, I was meant to sign for someone until Joe phoned,' Elito added.

So Elito's comments once again emphasis how Lambert's exit came just in time for the U's - and saved the club from losing one of their most highly-touted youngsters...

Close call! Hope Medy can pove PL wrong and start to show some of his form!
Matt_Us
Yep, really, really glad the players are saying just how poorly Lambert treated them + glad we still have our Medy! I see the same thing is happening with Norwich....
StevieG Col U
... poor treatment. But if it gets results, doubt some will care.
Matt_Us
Yeah, but think Aidy can bring us the same results with out this bad treatment?
StevieG Col U
Different managers see different things, it may bring in results but what is it doing to the clubs reputation?? Had RC not beed firm in keeping Dunne on the scence would PL have phased him out as well??
ColuNo1
Welcome to the site, ColUNo1. :D Yeah, you're right, I think when Lamb***** arrived their was clause saying Joe Dunne wasn't allowed to leave and he must have a position.
StevieG Col U
Totally agree StevieG I'm sure Aidy can bring us same results without poor treatment, but I do like a lot of the players Lambert brought in, Fox, Tierney, Hackney, Vincent, Lisbie, Okuonghae and Beevers when fit all have made the team so much better than the lack lustre team we were this time last season. There's no excuse for the way players like Elito or Ifil were treated, but if they want first team football they have to fight for position. It's results we all want at the end of the day and results that'll bring the fans back to the Weston Homes. Up the U's
colu_chip
Yeah, as much I hate Lambert, I find it hard to critise any of his signings, but I would question the Thomas deal however...
StevieG Col U
Agree with what's been said here. Williams Vincent and Fox are all good players for us! Good riddance, Lambert! [Edited by MattUs]

it is generally unfair to teat players differently from the rest of the squad also when willams was boss alough he alowed plays ie john white to come to pre-match trainning even if they wern't playin or sub and Towards the end of the season john was afirst team player so i don't see if lambert was excuding plays how he could buid a big team
