'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Extensions Likely For JJ, Oddy & Super Lis

True transfer window madness may be a long way off yet, but Aidy Boothroyd has promised to fight for the right to keep three loanees at the club long-term.

Watford`s John-Joe O`Toole, Ipswich Town striker Kevin Lisbie and on-form Barnsley man, Kayode Odejayi, have all impressed suitably since arriving and look set for extended stays this season.

Boothroyd is quoted this week on Sky Sports as saying: "As far as Kevin Lisbie is concerned it is down to the player whether he wants to play for us longer term. He is responding well to us and clearly likes the environment and the club.

"I've got to see if I can do something that keeps him here until the end of the season, and the same goes for John-Joe and Kayode."

Such intent could mean offering the trio permanent deals in a bit to stave off interest from other clubs.

Lisbie, according to recent comments from Roy Keane, will be recalled with a view to leaving parent club Ipswich after stirring up sufficient interest to prompt an early battle for his signature.

Assuming Colchester now must retain at least two of these players in their squad for the promotion push this season, it remains compelling to speculate as to who might sign on, seal a contract and then continue to deliver the goods.

Can see Lis and Odd-Job signing on a full-time basis. However, think O'Toole could be more difficult - he hasn't set the world alight so cant see us a breaking the bank, think his loan will be extended.
