Aidy Boothroyd has been quick to dismiss any claims that his Colchester United side are going to play stylishly week in, week out.
Despite the U's riding high in League One - currently sitting in fourth place - a number of fans have expressed discontent with the U's style of play. The U's ground out a comfortable 2-0 win over Stockport County on Tuesday night, with early goals from Kevin Lisbie and Clive Platt before shutting up shop.
However, Boothroyd has reassured U's fans over recent performances, he told the club's official website: 'But it is important that everyone understands that this is a marathon and the best teams are those that don't play very well and win.'
'We didn't play well or keep the ball very well, but you pick up the papers the next day and we won 2-0 and kept a clean sheet.'
Boothroyd, a manager who was labelled for his 'direct' style of football while in charge of Watford explained that a mix of playing well and getting results is key.
'Football is about winning first and foremost and the best teams have a balance between style and efficiency,' he added.
The U's boss has, however, made a largely positive impacts since arriving at the start of September. And he now wants to see his side produce a number of 'consistent' performances. ![]()
