'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Singed, Sealed, Delivered! I`m U`s?

It isn`t necessary to go all clairvoyant on Colchester`s possible transfer treats this upcoming Christmas. Not least since prime candidates Kevin Lisbie, John-Joe O`Toole and Kayode Odejayi are already in Essex.

Whoever might be on Aidy Boothroyd`s long-term wish-list, fans at least know who is on his shortlist - Lisbie [Ipswich], Odejayi [Barnsley] and O`Toole have all impressed since joining on loan, adding attacking flair to the club`s attack.

And, like any good shopper should around this time of year, the manager has already been browsing, to avoid disappointment.

On Friday, he said: "Kay`s up on the 19th so his last game will be Carlisle - obviously he`ll get us a hat-trick in that game and then have a couple of games off!

'John-Joe is here until the 31st but I`m very hopeful we can tie up that deal as well. Out two news signings have already been here for six months.

'The other one - Kevin - is well-documented every week. I`m hoping that we can resolve that one as well."

It is expected that the U`s Chairman, Robbie Cowling, would have to sanction the best part of £1 million to prize all three players away from Championship-level clubs.

That`s a hefty investment for any club, but at least Boothroyd would be investing in known quantifies during a January transfer window usually coloured by panic-buying aplenty.

Speaking again over the weekend, Boothroyd hinted that United`s purse-strings may not stretch as far as he would like, telling the EADT: "I think Robbie has put his money where his mouth is on more than one occasion though so I won't be going to him asking for a lot."
