'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Ribeiro: 'I Can't Remember The Last Time I Won!'

Christian Ribeiro, Colchester United's on-loan defender, admitted he cant remember the last time he finished on the winning side - but was happy to earn a point on Saturday.

After penning a month long loan deal with the U's - from Bristol City - the young Welshman was over the moon to put in an impressive shift and help the U's to a respectful point away at Gillingham. Ribeiro spent a similar spell with fellow League One side Stockport County during the Autumn but left with the disappointing record of losing every game in a Hatters shift.

'It's quite nice to come somewhere and get something other than a defeat! I can't remember the last time I won a game!' the 20-year-old full-back admitted, post-match, at Priestfields.

Ribeiro was linked with a move to the Premier League a couple of seasons ago after breaking into the first team; however, a long-term injury halted his career.

He continued: 'I really enjoyed brushing the cobwebs away today and I'm surprised how fit I felt seeing as I haven't played for a few weeks.

'I've been on the bench seven or eight times for Bristol City but not quite got back into the team, so I'm hoping I can come here and really boost my confidence by winning a few games,'
Ribeiro added.
